Creating Opportunity: Partners Come Together to Create Better Outcomes for Care Experienced Young People

Posted 18th August 2026

On the 13th of August 2026, partners came together in Stirling for our Pathways to Participation: Built by Us event, a day celebrating the leadership, participation and ambition of care-experienced young people across the House Project community.

Organised by the National House Project (NHP), House Projects in Scotland and CLNM Representatives, the event brought together young people, House Project teams, community organisations, businesses and education and employment providers. The morning focused on participation, community and change, and the afternoon created an important space for connection, giving care-experienced young people the opportunity to meet organisations that are committed to supporting their ambitions and future pathways.

Sharing Opportunities Available to Young People

A key part of the afternoon was the opportunity for partners to demonstrate what they can offer care-experienced young people, not simply through conversations, but through practical opportunities, information and commitments to take action.

Organisations attending included Balfour Beatty, GES, Solirius, Skills Development Scotland, Money Ready, Smartworks, Amey, NLN, University of St Andrews, Premier Inn (Whitbread), John Lewis, Scottish Police Authority, Police Scotland, The University of Stirling, Barratt Redrow and Goodmoves.

Together, these organisations represented a wide range of sectors and opportunities, from construction, engineering and technology to hospitality, retail, policing, education, third sector, employment support and financial wellbeing.

Each partner held a stall in the afternoon, showcasing the opportunities available to the young people at the event. These opportunities ranged from employment opportunities, employability programmes, education and training, financial support and programmes specifically designed to help care-experienced young people progress.

For some young people, the first step towards a future opportunity can simply be knowing that it exists. Having employers and organisations in the room meant young people could ask questions directly, make connections and begin conversations that could continue long after the event.

Making Lasting Commitments

At the end of the day, partners made pledges and commitments on the day, responding to the priorities and experiences shared by young people themselves.
By bringing young people and partners together in the same space, the event created the opportunity for genuine two-way conversations. Young people could tell organisations what matters to them, while partners could consider how their own programmes, workplaces and opportunities could become more accessible and responsive. Collectively, they demonstrated the potential that exists when organisations work together to create a stronger network of opportunity around care-experienced young people.

For NHP and House Projects in Scotland, this is an important part of the journey ahead.

Partnership matters. When employers, education providers, community organisations and other services are prepared to listen to young people, open doors and make meaningful commitments, real change can follow.

Thank you to our partners

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to every organisation that contributed to Pathways to Participation: Built by Us.

Your involvement helped create a space where care-experienced young people could see possibilities, make connections and be heard. Most importantly, the day demonstrated what can happen when organisations are willing to build with young people, rather than simply build for them.

If your organisation is interested in growing your partnership further with us, or starting a new one, please get in touch with kat@thehouseproject.org
